This section aims to provide key information for parents and carers of children and young people who have a wide spectrum of additional needs. We use “additional needs” as a broad term to cover children and young people who need extra support, temporarily or long term. This might be because they have a learning difficultiy, a physical disability, a specific behaviour problem and/or a sensory impairment.
This information includes advice on meeting the educational needs of such children and young people, together with the names of organisations which run activities and help parents with the specific care needs of their children. We have provided as many links as possible to national and local organisations, who offer practical advice and support to familes or individuals who may have an additional need.
Playschemes for Children with Disabilities
At the Canvey Community Children's Centre, we aim to promote inclusion throughout our child care groups. This is continued in our holiday playschemes. These are run in conjunction with Castle Point Children with disabilities team to provide good quality childcare and respite for family members
