The Hadleigh Castle Rare Breeds Farm is excellent. It's not free but very good value for money (I think I paid £2 per person). I'm sure very young children can go in free. I've been taking my daughter there for the last few years and seen the farm grow. She's 12 now and still enjoys going. You can buy bags of food to feed the animals, there's a picnic area and play area with mini tractors. And best of all its local.

I used to take my children to Walton Hall Farm museum, which is at Linford, it used to have little animals and birds, the kids loved it and it is not too far to go, dont know if it is still open though.

I also like going to Watt Tyler park, there are some interesting additions, lots of open space and nice climbing areas and swings for different ages.

Oh I cant wait for some good weather.

I have recently been to the promenade park at Maldon, a group of us went with our kids, we took bikes and footballs, we played cricket and rounders and had a bbq, it was a great day out and great value for money, everyone had a great time I would really recommend it
